Study Information

Prevalence Study

We are conducting a survey in certain areas of Auckland and Christchurch where we wish to find out the brain health of people aged 65 and over. Our team will be visiting these areas in the next few months. We intend to ask people about their age, ethnicity, and brain health. It will take about 5 minutes, and we will explain the IDEA programme in more detail if needed.

Some older adults will be randomly selected and be invited to participate in a more comprehensive interview, and one of their family members or friends will also be invited. Detailed Participant Information Sheet will be provided and our team will explain the interviews in details. For more details, please see the study flyer.

Study protocol paper is published in International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry. Access the article.

Living Well with Memory and Thinking Changes in Aotearoa NZ

We are conducting a study to find out how people are living with memory and thinking changes, and how their families or friends are supporting them. If you are Māori, then we will be holding group wānanga to discuss this in Auckland and Kaitāia. If you are of Samoan or Tongan origin, then we will have talanoa with your family. If you are of Pākehā/European, Māori, Pacific, Chinese or Indian descent with memory or thinking changes, or are a support person for someone who has these changes, then we are keen to hear from you! For more details, please see the study flyer.

Co-creation Meetings

Later in the year, we will initiate a series of co-creation meetings. These sessions will bring together people living with dementia, families, whānau, stakeholders, NGOs, service providers, and researchers. Through collaborative engagement, we aim to develop culturally safe models of care that balance formal, informal, and family support to promote optimal outcomes for individuals with dementia and their whānau and families.
