About IDEA
The IDEA (Impact of Dementia mate wareware and Equity in Aotearoa) programme is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to understanding dementia and its impact on older adults in Aotearoa New Zealand. This comprehensive study aims to discover the true prevalence of dementia across all major ethnic groups, while addressing inequities in care and support. The IDEA Programme is proudly funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC).
Our programme brings together a team of interdisciplinary researchers, community organisations, and non-government organisations to explore the challenges and opportunities in dementia care. By focusing on culturally sensitive solutions and collaborative approaches, we aim to improve outcomes for individuals living with dementia and their family/whānau.
Through community engagement, innovative research, and co-creation with those affected by dementia, the IDEA programme is paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable future for brain health in Aotearoa.

3. Explore and analyse the risk factor profiles, care arrangements, caregiver burdens, and positive aspects for each ethnic group affected by dementia.
